Head quarters of DES

The Directorate of Economics and Statistics (DE&S) erstwhile known as Bureau of Statistics and Economics , was declared as Head of Department in the year 1958 and continued to function under the administrative control of Planningand Co-ordination Department (P&C). It was renamed as Directorate of Economics and Statistics, in the year 1987. The Planning and Co-ordination Department is headed by Development Commissioner of Odisha. The Directorate of Economics and Statistics is headed by the Director, with supporting officers in Class I and Class-II ranks from Odisha Statistics and Economic Services (OSE&S) cadre and other technical and ministerial staff at the State Headquarters, Renge Level and District Level Statistical Offices. The OS&ES Cadre structure of DE&S under Planning and Co-ordination Department is as follows :

District Offices

The 30 districts are recently restructured and named as District Plannning and Monitoring Unit (DPMU) headed by Deputy Director (Planning & Statistics). 15 Districts namely Kendrapara, Khurda, Jagatsinghpur, Balasore, Gajapati, Kalahandi, Koraput, Malkangiri, Boudh, Kandhamal, Jharsuguda, Deogarh, Sundargarh, Dhenkanal and Keonjhar are headed by Deputy Director (Planning and Statistics) of OS&ES cadre of DES and assisted by Assistant Director (Planning) of OPS cadre of Planning and Co-ordination Department. The rest 15 Districts headed by Deputy Director( Planning and Statistics) of OPS Cadre of Planning and Co-ordination Department and assisted by Assistant Director( Statistics) of OS&ES cadre of DE&S. Technical and administrative staff are deployed in all the districts offices. There is no Statistical setup below the District Offices in the State.
